in the years 2020-2023

 

The strategy and goals of the Committee's activities:

The Committee was established in 2016 as a result of the connection  of the Reproductive Biology Committee (established in 1981) and the Veterinary Sciences Committee (established in 1956), continuing their activities. The Committee's activities include the following scientific areas and activities: structure and function of organs and systems of organisms of mammals, birds and fish, including cellular and molecular aspects, pathophysiology and veterinary pathology, diagnosis and treatment of infectious and non-infectious diseases, prevention and prophylaxis of diseases, monitoring of infectious and non-infectious diseases in animal populations, improvement of diagnostic methods and analysis of infectious and non-infectious causes of animal diseases, hygiene of slaughter animals and food products of animal origin, sanitary aspects of production and distribution of animal products, hygiene of feed and animal nutrition, parasitology, veterinary biotechnology, female reproduction physiology the male reproductive system of mammals, birds and fish, pathology, diagnostics and therapy of disorders of the reproductive system, biotechnology and biotechnology of human and animal reproduction.

The Committee analyzes the current state and development of veterinary sciences as well as animal and human reproductive biology, sets priority research directions, initiates interdisciplinary research in the field of veterinary sciences and reproductive biology and in cooperation with related fields, popularizes and disseminates the achievements of veterinary sciences and the problems of animal and human health protection, cooperates with domestic and foreign scientific and professional organizations and societies.

Taking into account the economic and environmental changes and groundbreaking legal changes resulting from the reform of the organization of science and higher education, as well as the epidemic situation, the Committee faces challenges incomparable to those existing so far. Therefore, it must undertake many activities and implement many procedures in the near future in such a way as to stimulate progress in the represented area of ​​science, against unusual and unexpected changes and difficulties.

Priorities and objectives of the Committee's activities:

1. As regards its substantive activities, the Committee will engage in the patronage and co-organization of scientific conferences and seminars as well as in publishing activities in the field of subjects related to veterinary medicine and reproductive biology. There are plans for publishing , including monographs and multi-author books published under the auspices of the Committee, with content resulting from the area of ​​interest of its members.

2. In the field of educational activities, the Committee will put emphasis on stimulating the environment to conduct scientific and clinical workshops as well as scientific (summer or winter) national and international schools.

3. As regards the dissemination activity, the Committee will continue to patronize the Polish Journal of Veterinary Sciences and will consider closer cooperation with Reproductive Biology, Journal of Veterinary Research and others, including Medycyna Weterynaryjna. The website of the Committee will be edited in Polish and English. It will be regularly updated and improved.

4. One of the main substantive tasks of the Committee is to monitor the state of the veterinary discipline and the area of ​​reproductive biology. It will be carried out through presentations of research topics carried out by individual research teams, presentations of young scientists and recognized authorities during organized meetings. Another manifestation of this type of activity will be the preparation by the Committee of a study on the state of science in the represented area in our country.

5. An extremely important part of the Committee's activity is issuing opinions on legal acts, including those concerning the reform of higher education and updating the list of magazines of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

6. The work of the Committee will be based on task teams appointed ad hoc to solve a specific problem or develop a position based on the substantive knowledge of its individual members in a specific specialization. The composition of the Committee will be supplemented by a group of 10 specialists representing not only the world of science, but also specialists representing industry, breeders' associations, opinion-forming centers and government agencies, ecological environments and others. The work of the Committee is managed by the Chairman and the Presidium. The Honorary Chairman of the Committee is prof. dr hab. Tadeusz Krzymowski, real member of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

7. With regard to the work plan for the current term of office, face-to-face / online meetings are proposed at least once every six months, with an emphasis on meetings presenting the work of individual research teams.

8. An important element of the Committee's activity were efforts to transform it into a National Committee.

9. In the opinion of the Committee, the most important and pressing challenges facing the area of ​​the Committee's activities in terms of content are: 1. Public health security, 2. Climate change and related epidemic and parasitological threats, 3. Deterioration of the health status, fertility and threats to the existence of many species and animal breeds caused by the development of civilization.

The detailed work plan of KNWiBR provides for the following activities in the near future:

1. Plenary meetings of the Committee conducted online or in stationary:

- in October 2020, in order to approve the Work Regulations and to conduct supplementary elections

- in the first half of 2021, concerning the issues of assessing the state of the discipline, finalizing the transformation of the KNWiBR into the National Committee, the issues of the principles of higher education reform and evaluation principles, the list of journals of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the state of talks on NCN panels, dispersion and depreciation of science, education, development of scientific staff

2. Co-organization of key environmental scientific conferences, i.e. the Congress of the Polish Society of Veterinary Sciences and the Congress of the Society of Reproductive Biology - depending on the development of the epidemic situation

3. Organizing 2-3-month and ad hoc on-line meetings of the Presidium of the Committee devoted to:

- preparation of plenary meetings

- discussing the current substantive problems of the Committee's activities

- opinion-forming and expert activity of the Committee

- current administrative matters

The Presidium of the Committee intends to work mainly via electronic communication until the end of the application of the rules of the sanitary regime in the country.

4. Presentation of the achievements of teams and young scientists in the areas of veterinary sciences and reproductive biology, in particular during Plenary Meetings and thematic meetings of the Committee

5. Promotion of knowledge and current scientific achievements in the field of veterinary sciences and reproductive biology implemented into practice and the broadly understood society through the organization / co-organization of workshops, conferences and scientific sessions

6. Work on the search for ways to increase the impact indicators of the Committee magazine - Polish Journal of Veterinary Sciences.

7. Opinions and analyzes prepared for the authorities of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the development of positions on important current scientific and professional matters, similar to the work of the Committee actively conducted in recent months on the position on the LKE and two positions on the draft amendments to the regulation on veterinary specializations. It is also planned to develop a position on the NCN Panels (no panel dedicated exclusively to veterinary medicine), proposed changes to the list of journals of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the principles of evaluation of veterinary universities and again the issue of specialization).

8. Editing of a study on the present state of the scientific discipline of veterinary science and the area of ​​reproductive biology.
